Thematic Priority: Sustainable Development - ေရရွည္တည္တံ့ခိုင္ျမဲသည့္ ဖြံ့ၿဖိဳးတိုးတက္မႈ

Thematic Priority – Sustainable Development

Since reforms began, the narrative of Myanmar being the ‘last economic frontier’ has facilitated floods of foreign investment as the economy continues to liberalize. Yet the legal framework is not strong enough to protect vulnerable populations and the environment from adverse effects of potentially exploitative and damaging investments and the risks of perpetuating inequality and irreversible social and environmental damage. Destructive natural resource extraction, land confiscations, and poor working conditions in industrial zones, are just a few of the problems that are endemic. In consultation and partnership with community-based organizations, we advocate for an economic development that is sustainable, equitable and guarantees the protection of the human rights, peace and human security of poor and vulnerable populations against the economic interests of powerful private sector and military actors.

Progressive Voice has produced a number of reports under the thematic priority – Sustainable Development. The reports can be found at the bottom of this thematic priority areas.
