We, the Karenni Civil Society Network (KCSN), strongly condemn the Myanmar military coup on the 1st of February which is clearly illegitimate. The coup, led by Myanmar’s army chief General Min Aung Hlaing, is a blow to Myanmar’s democratic transition.

All influential international communities are sincerely urged to righteously stand with Myanmar public, and to firmly deter the Myanmar military junta from their attempt to undermine the fragile democratic and human rights developments that have been achieved during Myanmar’s transition from military rule.

The Myanmar military regime has drafted the 2008 Constitution and is trying to legitimize the current coup in a variety of ways. Due to our unyielding favour for the emergence of genuine federal union and the development of democracy in Myanmar, political purposes that are strongly aligned with the political will of Myanmar people across the country, all forms of co-operation taken and compromise made by any democratic forces or ethnic armed groups with the oppressive Myanmar military regime to legitimise the coup are strongly opposed and condemned.

Along with various organizations, we, the Karenni Civil Society Network (KCSN), express our support for and stand with Myanmar people, political activists, individuals from various provinces, and employees in their peaceful protest against the unjust military coup.
