Chairman Crowley, Rep. Chabot Call for Suspension of Military Training in Burma

(Washington, D.C.) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) and Congressman Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) issued the following statement on the violence in Burma:

“We are horrified by the ongoing situation in the Rakhine State, Burma. In particular, with hundreds of thousands fleeing, we’re deeply concerned by numerous reports that Burma’s military is not exercising restraint with respect to the treatment of Rohingya civilians.

“This is quickly becoming a humanitarian crisis that the United States must take a leading role in to resolve. The U.S. should send a firm signal to Burma’s military that this cannot continue by suspending any current or future military training in Burma.”
