Press Statement World Refugee Day 2025 – Solidarity with Refugees Day 2025

In conjunction with World Refugee Day 2025, Myanmar Ethnic Rohingya Human Rights Organization in Malaysia (MERHROM) call upon each and everyone to stand in Solidarity with refugees around the globe regardless of race, religion and their colours.

We truly honor each refugee around the globe who fled conflict, war and genocide. We have no other choice but to flee our homeland to save our lives. We face torture, hardship, hunger, homelessness, no treatment, no education, no humanitarian aid, discrimination, xenophobia, fake news and hate speech. We suffer in silence.

We refugees are not a threat to anyone. We refugees fled our countries to save our lives. We did not come to take away anyone’s rights. We do not come here to steal locals’ jobs or take over the country. We were forced to work to feed our family. We refugees want to live in peace, just like you, but why are we insulted and hated?

We are exhausted physically and mentally, but we want to continue living for one hope – to return home with dignity and safety – to rebuild our lives in resettlement counties – to live peacefully without hatred, harassment, threatening, and xenophobia. We are refugees, we have dreams and hope just like you.

This year Theme for World Refugee Day 2025 is “Solidarity with Refugee”. Solidarity meant a lot for the refugees around the globe. Solidarity is a magical word which can turn our lives better to counter all our hardship and challenges we face. We need your Solidarity to rebuild our shattered lives. We need your Solidarity and interventions to end the conflict, war and genocide globally so that we can return home safely. We need your Solidarity to save this planet from Climate Change caused by conflict, war and genocide.

This year 2025, there is a tremendous increase of displaced persons, asylum seekers and refugees due to ongoing conflict, war and genocide. How do we cope with this? The world is witnessing 2 long decades of Genocides in 21st Century. The Palestenian and Rohingya Genocide. The Palestenians and Rohingya facing ongoing Genocide and the world failed to protect them. The massive killing of the Palestenians, destruction of houses, mosques, hospital and school are clearly Genocide but no one can stop it.

The displaced Rohingya in Sittwe, Rakhine State of Myanmar still living in IDP camps until now since Myanmar military genocidal attack in 2012. The Rohingya Refugees in Cox’s Bazar refugee camps in Bangladesh suffer from malnutrition, hunger, dire living conditions and various security problems. How long can they stay in this situation?

Now, Rohingya in Rakhine State in Maungdaw and Buthidaung Township were forced to leave their house and village following the order from the Arakan Army (AA). Where will they go? What will happen next? In their journey to save their lives, they will fall into the human traffickers’ hand who asked for ransom on top of torture and brutal abuse by the traffickers.

We need everyone to be the voice of the refugees, to stand with refugees and help us to rebuild our lives.

On World Refugee Day, we humbly request to UN member states for: –

  1. The release of asylum seekers who suffered long detentions in many countries
  2. UNHCR to prioritize the registration of asylum seekers who waited for registration process from 5 – 10 years
  3. Access to work, treatment and education
  4. Stop deportation of asylum seekers and refugees
  5. Timely humanitarian aid and treatment at the affected zone
  6. Increase resettlement quotas
  7. Deploy Peacekeeping Mission

We thank everyone who becomes part of our journey in our search for safety and protection. We hope one day we become just like you – a free person with rights and dignity.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Zafar Ahmad Abdul Ghani
