The Steering Council for the Emergence of a Federal Democratic Union (SCEF) convened a diplomatic briefing on June 5 with members of the international diplomatic community to exchange views on the current situation in Burma and the challenges facing the country’s future transition.
During the briefing, SCEF representatives shared perspectives on the evolving political realities across the country, the importance of ensuring cohesion and the work being done by SCEF to create conditions for a sustainable federal democratic future.
SCEF emphasized that Burma’s crisis cannot be understood solely through the lens of armed conflict or humanitarian emergency. The country is undergoing a profound political transformation that requires approaches capable of addressing questions of governance, legitimacy, representation, and long-term stability.
Participants discussed the importance of civilian protection, humanitarian access, political inclusion, and the challenges associated with achieving durable peace under current conditions.SCEF reiterated its commitment to collective political coordination, inclusive participation, responsible stabilization, and a future federal democratic union that reflects the aspirations and diversity of the peoples of Burma.
SCEF also emphasized that sustainable stability cannot be achieved through arrangements that leave the root causes of conflict unresolved. Long-term peace will require meaningful political transformation, broad participation, and recognition of the realities that have emerged across the country.
The briefing formed part of SCEF’s ongoing efforts to engage constructively with regional and international partners and to encourage continued dialogue on pathways toward a stable, inclusive, and peaceful future for Burma.
SCEF expresses its appreciation to all diplomatic representatives who participated in the discussion and looks forward to continued engagement in support of the people of Burma and the country’s future transition.
The briefing was attended by representatives from twenty-four countries and international organizations.
