At A Glance on Armed Struggles (24-30 April 2026)

Between 24 and 30 April 2026, there were at least 176 incidents of military operations and civilian-targeted attacks across the country. Among them, at least 70 incidents were military operations and 106 incidents were civilian-targeted attacks.

On 24 April, the junta’s self-proclaimed president Min Aung Hlaing met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Naypyidaw. During the meeting, Min Aung Hlaing stated that Myanmar would not allow any actions that could harm China’s interests within its territory and would ensure their protection. In addition, Wang Yi also met with the junta’s foreign minister, and they discussed expanding mutual interests between the two countries. On 27 April, the European Union announced that it would extend its sanctions on Myanmar—originally imposed after the military coup—for another year until May 2027. On 28 April, during the 25th ASEAN–EU Ministerial Meeting (AEMM) held in Brunei Darussalam, the foreign ministers of Thailand and Singapore held informal discussions on Myanmar. The Singaporean foreign minister remarked that the situation in Myanmar has become increasingly concerning over time and expressed a desire to see stronger and more concrete progress. On 30 April, following a statement by a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson describing Aung San Suu Kyi as an old friend of China and noting that her situation is being closely monitored, Myanmar’s state media announced that she had been transferred to house arrest by the military junta.
