At A Glance On Armed Struggles (3 April – 9 April 2026)

Between 3 and 9 April 2026, there were at least 171 incidents of military operations and civilian-targeted attacks across the country. Among them, at least 73 incidents were military operations and 98 incidents were civilian-targeted attacks.

On 3 April, Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to coup leader Min Aung Hlaing, who became an illegitimate, self-proclaimed president, and stated that diplomatic relations between the two countries would be further strengthened. On 6 April, Min Aung Hlaing submitted to the Union Parliament a list for an illegitimate civilian-style government formed with former military generals. On the same day, it was reported that an Indonesian court officially accepted a case filed under Universal Jurisdiction against the military junta for committing war crimes, including genocide against the Rohingya. On 10 April, coup leader Min Aung Hlaing and the vice presidents took the oath in the Union Parliament. At the same time, the military group’s National Defence and Security Council announced that it had transferred back the three branches of power and dissolved the military commission. Although Min Aung Hlaing has become president, the rotating ASEAN chair, the Philippines, stated that he would not be allowed to attend ASEAN summit meetings.
