At A Glance On Armed Struggles (27 March – 2 April 2026)

Between 27 March and 2 April 2026, there were at least 168 incidents of military operations and civilian-targeted attacks across the country. Among them, at least 97 incidents were military operations and 71 incidents were civilian-targeted attacks.

On 31 March, the group of Pyithu Hluttaw representatives under the military junta elected Min Aung Hlaing as Vice President. The group of Amyotha Hluttaw representatives elected Nan Ni Ni Aye, Chairperson of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) from Karen Region, as Vice President. The group of military representatives also elected the military junta’s Prime Minister Nyo Saw as Vice President. On the same day, Min Aung Hlaing transferred his role as Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services to General Ye Win Oo, and assigned General Kyaw Swar Lin as Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services. In addition, Lieutenant General Ko Ko Oo was appointed as the Joint Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy, Air Force). On 3 April, the junta held the presidential election in Nay Pyi Taw and Min Aung Hlaing was elected as President with 429 votes. The junta’s Prime Minister Nyo Saw received 126 votes and became Vice President 1, while Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye received 29 votes and became Vice President 2.
