Less Votes, More Fraud: Burma’s Sham Election Phase 2 Overview (10 Jan – 21 Jan 2026)

  • During 4 Jan – 16 Jan, there were 389 armed clashes and attacks against civilians in 112 townships, which killed 75 civilians.
  • The junta launched 102 airstrikes in 49 townships. The junta continued its violent crimes.
  • In Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House), USDP “won” 86 of 100 (86%) of ‘elected’ seats in Phase 2.
  • In Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House), USDP “won” 62 of 90 (69%) of elected seats in Phase 1 and 2.
  • USDP secures enough seats with military quota to form a “gov.”
  • 83% of Chin State voters boycotted sham polls in Phase 1.
  • UEC admits errors with machines, voter lists.
  • On 8 Junta drops 60 bombs in 2 Sagaing tsps. on 8 Jan, plans conscription drive after polls.
  • Junta-aligned Party adopts Rohingya genocide as policy.
  • CSOs condemn Philippine Minister’s junta meeting.
  • Japan warns sham election will deepen Burma crisis.
