A Generation on Guard: Youth Perceptions and Action on Climate and Environment

A Generation on Guard: Youth Perceptions and Action on Climate and Environment

Escalating climate and environmental pressures are shaping how young people across Myanmar experience daily life, deepening uncertainty in a country already strained by conflict and economic crisis. This fourth and final report in UNDP’s Myanmar Youth Series, following A Generation on the Move, A Generation on Hold, and A Generation on Edge, examines how youth perceive climate and environmental risks and where pathways for action emerge. Drawing on the voices of more than 7,000 young people nationwide, the findings reveal widespread awareness of climate challenges, but uneven concern and limited opportunities to respond. Floods, heatwaves, and droughts feature prominently across regions, reflecting lived exposure to recurring hazards. The report underscores the critical role of education, information, and youth-led initiatives in transforming awareness into agency, and calls for climate action that is inclusive, conflict-sensitive, and grounded in the realities facing Myanmar’s young generation.
