At A Glance On Armed Struggles (20 March – 26 March 2026)

Between 20 and 26 March 2026, there were at least 179 incidents of military operations and civilian-targeted attacks across the country. Among them, at least 83 incidents were military operations and 96 incidents were civilian-targeted attacks.

The military junta convened the first day of the third People’s Assembly (Pyithu Hluttaw) first regular session on 16 March, followed by a second day on 23 March, during which it announced the formation of two permanent committees. Currently, the junta has appointed U Khin Yi, chairman of the military-aligned Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), as the Speaker of the People’s Assembly, with Minister of Information U Maung Maung Ohn serving as Deputy Speaker. Similarly, the first regular session of the third National Assembly (Amyotha Hluttaw) began on 18 March, with a second session on 24 March where four permanent committees were established. Former General Aung Lin Dwe, the Executive Secretary of the junta’s National Defense and Security Council, has been appointed as Speaker of the National Assembly, while Jeng Phang Naw Taung serves as Deputy Speaker. Furthermore, Union Assembly (Pyidaungsu Hluttaw) meetings are scheduled to commence on 30 March to facilitate the selection and appointment of the President and Vice Presidents.
