At A Glance on Armed Struggles (20 February – 26 February)

Between 20-26 February, there were at least 205 incidents of military operations and civilian-targeted attacks across the country. Among them, at least 64 incidents were military operations and 141 incidents were civilian-targeted attacks.

On 24 February, the Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI announced that the bureau is collaborating with the Royal Thai Police to crack down on Southeast Asian online scam operations by dismantling criminal networks, identifying victims, and targeting scam infrastructure. On 19 February, the military junta met with a Russian delegation in Nay Pyi Taw to discuss signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish an Emergency Response Center for disaster relief and resettlement efforts. On 17 February, the Thai government designated several districts in Kanchanaburi, Chiang Rai, Tak, and Mae Hong Son provinces along the Myanmar and Cambodian borders as “controlled goods areas” to bolster national security and curb transnational crime. Finally, the Philippines, which is the current ASEAN Chair, is considering a review of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus regarding the Myanmar crisis as well as the appointment of a long-term special envoy to address the situation.
