Between 30 January and 5 February, there were at least 179 incidents of armed clashes and civilian-targeted attacks across the country. Among them, at least 96 incidents were armed operations and 83 incidents were civilian-targeted attacks.
Following the military junta’s illegal sham election which was completed on 25 January, the international community issued the following responses within the week. On 4 February, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson urged collective efforts to maintain political stability and pledged continued constructive assistance for peace and development. On 3 February, during a meeting in Nay Pyi Taw between the junta leader and the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, President Putin extended his congratulations on the completion of the election while the Secretary affirmed Russia’s full support for Myanmar’s sovereignty and security. Additionally, a new five-year military alliance treaty effective until 2030 was signed between Myanmar and Russia. On the other hand, on 27 January, the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR) issued a statement rejecting the election results and urging ASEAN to look beyond the policy of non-interference to more actively support democracy, justice, and security in Myanmar.
