Between 23 and 29 January, there were a total of 219 incidents of armed clashes and civilian-targeted attacks across the country. Among them, at least 104 incidents were armed operations and 115 incidents were civilian-targeted attacks.
On 29 January, the military junta’s National Defense and Security Council issued three announcements declaring that the previously established state of emergency and martial law orders in 63 townships—most of which are under the control of revolutionary forces—will remain in effect for an additional 90 days from the date of issuance. Regarding the third phase of the sham election, which was held in 61 townships on 25 January, the Union Election Commission (UEC) under the junta, released election results on 28 January. It was recorded that the military-aligned Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) won 50 Pyithu Hluttaw (House of Representatives) seats across 54 townships. Following the conclusion of the second phase of the sham election, the cumulative results including phase one also showed the USDP winning 471 seats across the Pyithu Hluttaw, Amyotha Hluttaw (House of Nationalities), and Regional/State Parliaments. The junta conducted these sham elections in 263 townships while they were unable to hold them in 63 townships dominated by revolutionary forces. Consequently, the emergency orders for those specific townships have now been extended.
