At A Glance on Armed Struggles (09 January – 15 January)

Between 9 and 15 January, there were a total of 223 incidents of armed clashes and civilian-targeted attacks across the country. Among them, at least 122 incidents were armed operations and 101 incidents were civilian-targeted attacks.

As the highlights, two incidents between armed revolutionary forces and two others between ethnic armed forces were observed in Sagaing region. On 9 January, two armed forces under the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) were broken into battles in Pansaung town, Nanyun township within the Naga Self-administered Zone in Sagaing. The battles between these two forces broke out again in Hkamti township, Sagaing, on 12 January. On 9 January, the People Defense Forces (PDF) under the National Unity Government (NUG) raided two checkpoints of the Burma National Revolutionary Army (BNRA) in Pale township, Sagaing, after local residents complained that the checkpoints are extorting money from them. During the raids, one firearm was seized from a gate with no casualties.
