According to media reports between 2 and 8 January 2026, at least 32 airstrikes targeting civilians were reported across six regions. In these attacks, at least 30 civilians were killed and 48 others were injured. Additionally, 17 airstrikes were reported during combat engagements between armed revolutionary forces and the military junta. It was reported that the military junta mainly used Y-12 aircrafts, Yak-130 and fighter jets in launching these attacks.
During the reporting period, both the number of airstrike incidents targeting civilians and the number of civilian casualties increased compared to the last week. Between 2 and 8 January 2026, the majority of airstrikes targeting civilians committed by the military junta was reported in Sagaing, Magway, Bago, Shan (North), Rakhine and Chin regions. Due to the military’s airstrikes, one education building was destroyed in Sagaing region while two religious buildings in Magway Region and one in Sagaing were also destroyed.
In Sagaing Region, 14 airstrikes targeting civilians were reported in Wuntho, Tabayin, Shwebo, Wetlet, Kawlin, Kyunhla, Katha, Khin-U, Kanbalu and Indaw townships. On 5 January, a fighter jet of the military junta attacked a school residing by the IDPs located in a village in Khin-U township. Two male and one female civilians were killed while 10 others were injured. On 2 January, a village in Kanbalu township was attacked by the military junta’s fighter jet. It was reported that one child, one male and one female civilians were killed while five male and two female civilians were injured.
In Magway Region, 14 airstrikes targeting civilians were reported in Gangaw, Myaing, Pauk, Saw and Tilin townships. On 6 January, a fighter jet of the military junta conducted an aerial attack on a village in Myaing township, killing one child and injuring at least six civilians including one child and four females. Additionally, two houses were also destroyed. On 7 January, the military junta conducted aerial attack by Y12 aircraft on multiple villages sheltering the IDPs in Tilin township. It was reported that one male civilian was killed while one child and one female civilians were injured during the attack.
In Chin Region, one airstrike incident targeting civilians was reported in Hakha township. On 5 January, two villages in Hakha township were attacked by a fighter jet of the military junta, killing two children, one male and one female civilians despite any ongoing battle.
In Rakhine Region, one airstrike incident targeting civilians was reported in Kyaukpyu township. On 5 January, the military junta conducted aerial attack by a fighter jet and navy attack by the military vessels on civilian vehicles that were returning from supporting aid to the IDPs.
