The European Rohingya Council (ERC) appeals Bangladesh government to show compassion in this holy month of Ramadan and allow two boats of Rohingya refugees stranded at sea to come ashore and receive life-saving food and medicines.

“The Rohingya refugees including children, women, and elderly people stranded at sea could be running out of life-saving food, water and other necessities. Therefore, it is urgently important to save their lives,” said Dr. Hla Kyaw, chairman of ERC

“The government of Bangladesh and its people have been very compassionate towards Rohingya and Rohingya community recognizes such extraordinary humanity and morality of Bangladesh,” Dr. Hla Kyaw added.

ERC also appeals to the international community to support Bangladesh in taking all necessary steps to rescue Rohingya refugees stranded at sea and prevent loss of lives at sea.

“We understand the burden Bangladesh has been carrying – hosting and taking care of nearly one million Rohingya refugees – amid COVID-19 crisis. However, the lives of hundreds of Rohingya on two boats will be lost if Bangladesh turns its back to them,” added Dr. Hla Kyaw.

ERC, therefore, appeals to the government of Bangladesh and its people to keep showing love and compassion to two boats of Rohingya refugees stranded at sea and allow them to come ashore and receive life-saving food and medicines.
