Joint Forum on Strengthening Regional Accountability: ASEAN’s Failure on Women, Youth, Peace and Security in Myanmar

On 16 October 2025, the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM), Progressive Voice, and Alternative ASEAN Network on Burma (ALTSEAN-Burma) will hold a hybrid public forum Strengthening the Regional Accountability: ASEAN’s Failure on Women, Youth, Peace and Security in Myanmar.

The forum aims to raise awareness about the situation of women and youth in Myanmar, their resilience, challenges, and aspirations for a new federal democratic Myanmar, and to seek stronger solidarity and support from international community, particularly ASEAN. During the forum, panelists from across Myanmar will share testimonies of their experiences and their communities’ situation. The panelists will also put forward recommendations for Malaysia, as the current Chair of ASEAN, and ASEAN stakeholders.
