Children from Myanmar/Burma, suffer various forms of violence against children and violation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in terms of right to life, survival and development because of lack of action and responsibilities from the International Community.

We, Blood Money Campaign and People of Myanmar, call on the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and ASEAN governments to take urgent and decisive action to halt the Myanmar military’s relentless airstrikes, which results in loss of innocent lives — particularly children and their access to basic services including but not limited to education, food, shelter and health.

Since the military coup attempt of 2021, Myanmar’s children have endured unimaginable suffering. Within just 5 months of 2024, the military conducted around 1500 airstrikes, resulting in the deaths of at least 90 children. UN Special Rapporteur Tom Andrews reported that the frequency of airstrikes in 2024 is five times higher than in 2023, highlighting the worsening crisis.

Children in Myanmar are being robbed of their childhood. Instead of attending school, many are forced to hide underground to escape bombings. They live in constant fear, deprived of education, safety, and health.

In light of the above-mentioned paragraph, it is clear that the Myanmar junta has consistently violated the fundamental rights of children as articulated in Article 24 of the CRC, which stipulates that “every child has the right to the best possible health.” The military junta also violates Article 27, which guarantees the “right to a standard of living adequate for the child’s physical and social needs.

We urgently demand to the USA, UK, EU and ASEAN member governments:

Immediately cease the involvement of companies in the direct or indirect export, sale, or transfer of aviation fuel to Myanmar.

Sanction all persons and entities involved in the supply of aviation fuel to Myanmar, including trade, storage, transport, and distribution companies, ships, companies that provide delivery and shipment insurance for aviation fuel, and the junta-controlled Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise (MPE).

Enforce sanctions that have already been imposed.

We call on international companies to:
Immediately cease all direct and indirect involvement in the export, sale and transfer of aviation fuel to Myanmar.

Cut off the criminal Myanmar junta’s access to aviation fuel to help end war crimes and crimes against humanity. This is a matter of life and death. Protecting children is a shared global responsibility.
