Statement on the Rejection of the Military Regime’s proposal for Talk

Interim Executive Council of Karenni State

Statement No.(5/2024)

28th September 2024

“Statement on the Rejection of the Military Regime’s proposal for Talk”

  1. The unlawful military junta, which seized the state power from the people in defiance of the results of the 2020 general election, has perpetrated war crimes and gross human rights violations throughout the country. The junta used heavy weapons and airstrikes to target schools, hospitals, religious facilities, and houses. These attacks have resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians, especially women and children.
  2. As citizens from all sectors protest the junta’s harshness, its administration collapses, and the 2008 Constitution loses authority in the country. In this situation, the junta has imposed compulsory conscription on civilians, attempted a nationwide census, and staged a sham election to avoid a political catastrophe. It has also issued a statement in an attempt to cause separation among revolutionary and pro-democracy forces through a bogus peace invitation.
  3. The Interim Executive Council of Karenni State (IEC) strongly believes that the military junta’s so-called peace invitation is not a solution, but rather a political ploy to exacerbate the country’s problem. Thus, the IEC rejects the offer to talk with the terrorist military junta, remains committed to building a federal system, and will work to prevent the military junta’s atrocities against the people of Karenni State.
  4. We urge all states and federal units to join, continue the fight, and stand in solidarity with the people’s desire for justice and democracy in order to realize our people’s true dreams.
