14 June 2023

We strongly condemn the heinous actions of the genocidal military junta (SAC) for their brutal massacre of 26 innocent villagers in Moebya, southern Shan State of Myanmar. Between 6 and 8 June 2023, 14 villagers were mercilessly shot and killed by the military regime in the northern part of Moebya, near a pagoda. Additionally, during the same time, 12 more innocent lives were lost due to mortar fire from the genocidal military junta in the Moebya area.
Our hearts go out to the loved ones, families, relatives, and the entire community affected by this horrific act of violence. We offer our deepest condolences, prayers, and thoughts during this painful time.
The villagers of Shan discovered the bodies of six civilians shot by the regime, with knowledge of five more victims whose bodies remain unretrieved due to the continued presence of the military. Approaching the area poses a risk of being shot down by the military. Disturbing drone footage reveals one of the victims, shot in the head, lying in the pagoda grounds. Additionally, three more bodies were found, indicating that they were forced to kneel and executed point-blank. These 14 innocent lives were taken between 7 and 8 June near Moebya. In the past two weeks, the military junta has relentlessly attacked the area, resulting in the deaths of 12 more villagers through mortar fire. Twenty other villagers have also sustained injuries during this period.
We express our gratitude to the Free Burma Rangers (FBR) teams and other courageous individuals who have tirelessly worked to save lives and evacuate civilians from the area. The military junta must be held accountable for their atrocious crimes against humanity. We call upon the international community, particularly Myanmar’s neighbouring countries, to use all available means to put an end to these acts of crimes against humanity and ensure that the perpetrators face justice. The people of Myanmar deserve a just and peaceful future, where such atrocities cease to exist.
Sincerely,

Dr. Sasa
