Statement on Fighting in Western Burma

1. The World Kachin Congress (WKC), a network of Kachin organizations and communities around the world, expresses its deep concern over the Burma Army’s military campaign in western Burma.

2. We condemn indiscriminate shelling, arbitrary killing, aerial bombing and targeting of civilians, including an attack on a UN vehicle, killing a staff member and injuring another.

3. We call upon the UN Security Council to convene a meeting to investigate lawless and brutal killings of civilians in Chin and Arakan states.

4. We urge the Burma Army to halt an on-going military campaign against the Arakan Army and prioritize national resources to combating global pandemic.
