Burma/Myanmar – Advisory Commission on Rakhine State

August 25th, 2017  •  Author:   France Diplomatie  •  1 minute read

We applaud the Burmese authorities’ decision to follow the final recommendations of the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State, established in 2016 and chaired by former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan, with the aim of improving socioeconomic conditions, human rights, and maintaining peace and security.

France nevertheless is closely monitoring the still-troubling situation in Rakhine State, particularly the fate of members of the Rohingya minority. It strongly condemns all acts of violence, including the attacks by an armed group on Burmese security forces on August 25. We call on the Burmese authorities to show restraint and protect civilian populations.
