On 16 December 2024, Myanmar civil society will launch a position paper regarding the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN’s) proclaimed goal of achieving a “Myanmar-owned and -led” resolution to the intensifying crisis in Myanmar. This position paper was initiated by the Myanmar National Organizing Committee for ACSC/APF (Myanmar NOC) and has been endorsed by more than 260 Myanmar civil society organizations.

At the recent ASEAN Summits in October 2024, held in Vientiane under Laos’ chairship, the bloc stated that its goal is “to help the people of Myanmar to achieve an inclusive and durable peaceful resolution that is Myanmar-owned and -led.”

During this online event, panelists will discuss Myanmar civil society’s assessment of ASEAN’s approach, share insights into the meaning of a truly “Myanmar-owned and -led solution,” and present recommendations for ASEAN to support this long-term sustainable solution in the best interest of Myanmar and the region.

The Myanmar NOC invites members of the press, diplomats, policymakers, civil society organizations, and all stakeholders committed to genuine peace, democracy, justice and accountability in Myanmar to attend this launch. The event will be held in Myanmar and English languages. Simultaneous interpretation for both languages will be provided.
