  1. Myanmar was severely impacted by heavy rains and widespread flooding caused by Typhoon Yagi, which started in the South China Sea last week.
  2. These floods were significantly more severe than usual, causing landslides and flooding in villages, towns, and cities. This devastation resulted in widespread destruction of homes and loss of life.
  3. The National Unity Consultative Council extends its deepest condolences to those killed and badly affected by the devastating flash floods and landslides.
  4. The National Unity Consultative Council also empathizes with the public, who are already grappling with the oppression of the military junta and socio-economic hardship. This devastating natural disaster will undoubtedly add to their suffering.
  5. We commend the people of Myanmar for their resilience and compassion in supporting one another during this time of hardship and suffering.
  6. The National Unity Consultative Council vehemently condemns the terrorist military junta for their ongoing indiscriminate bombings and killings of civilians. Their failure to provide any assistance or rescue efforts during the widespread floods is a further testament to their inhumane disregard for human life.
  7. We encourage people nationwide to remain united and resilient in the face of the military junta’s oppression, as well as natural and man-made disasters.
  8. Given their legal and moral obligations under international law, we urge the United Nations, ASEAN, and the international community to not overlook the urgent needs of the Myanmar people, who are facing both war and natural disasters. We call for immediate cross-border humanitarian assistance in cooperation with the National Unity Government.

In solidarity with the revolution
National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC)
