The released Statement of Northern Alliance (Burma) on Peace Dialogue

At the invitation of H.E. Mr. Sun Guoxiang, Special Envoy of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affair of China, on 19 January 2017, our Northern Alliance-Burma (KIA, TNLA, MNDAA, and AA) held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Sun Guoxiang in Kunming, Yunnan province, in the People’s Republic of China. In the meeting we expressed and discussed with Special Envoy the Northern Alliance (Burma)’s facing difficulties and obstacles in the process of dialogue and our positions on the peace-building issue. Similarly, we are very grateful to Special Envoy Mr. Sun Guoxiang for putting arduous effort to advance Myanmar peace.

1. The members of Northern Alliance (Burma) are the participants in the whole process of dialogue all the time. Therefore, we have also full of ambition to discuss with the union government for resolving political problems through the political means of dialogue.

2. We need to hold a true peace talks with the union government. We request the Government of China continue to stand for an equal and fair political dialogue to be held.

3. In order to end the civil war immediately, the “UWSA” is requested to attend the discussion between us and the Union government.

4. In addition to Mr. Sun Guoxiang’s seriously urging, we fully realize that the running conflicts and problems in Myanmar can be solved only by political means through a fair, equal and genuine dialogue. Therefore, we reaffirm that we are always ready to hold peace talks with the government.
