Media Advisory: Launch of a Report on the Garment Industry in Myanmar

A new report, “Raising the Bottom: A Report on the Garment Industry in Myanmar,” will be launched on 1 December, 2016 at the Best Western Green Hill Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar. The report focuses on the fast-developing garment industry in Myanmar and examines four key aspects of concerns for workers including working hours, working conditions, the impacts of minimum wage, and trade unions and labor dispute settlements. The report offers a glimpse into one of the many challenges Myanmar and its garment factory workers continue to face and provides a set of recommendations to relevant actors that are intended to improve the worker’s situation and create a sustainable industry in Myanmar.

Joined by speakers from local civil society organizations working on labor issues in Myanmar, Progressive Voice will be holding a press conference to discuss the detailed findings of the research, identifying the challenges and discuss how to work towards a sustainable industry that promotes and protects the rights of the workers. The press conference will be held in Burmese language.

When: 1 December, 2016; 14:00 -16:00

Where: Best Western Green Hill Hotel, Emerald Room
No. 12, Pho Sein Road, Tamwe Township, Yangon, Myanmar
